Our Focus
The ITS Communication Technologies (formerly Telecommunications) Engineering and Operations (E&O) group is responsible for the overall operations, administration and maintenance of UNC-Chapel Hill’s legacy and converged voice communications, data transport infrastructure, video distribution, and ancillary communications services.
Services
The E&O group provides a host of campus services including:
- Primary customer support and account management for all campus departments and organizations
- Customer account administration (VoIP and Centrex line adds, moves, deletes, etc.)
- Special circuit administration (T-1, Metro-Ethernet, PRI/BRI, etc.)
- Student communications administration (telephony, LD and CATV)
- Campus cellular (ITS state contract) and pager administration
- Telecom and ancillary services vendor contract administration
- Long-distance carrier administration
- Campus voice mail system administration
- ACD administration
- Campus telephone directory administration
- Installation, maintenance and repair of all campus Centrex, POTS lines and leased key systems
- Installation, maintenance and repair of all campus emergency call boxes
- Installation, maintenance and repair of all (underground, aerial and in-building) campus optic fiber, copper and coax infrastructure and associated ancillary equipment (includes campus CATV system)
- Outside/inside plant design engineering and construction specifications
- New systems design, development, testing, certification and integration (formerly R&D)
- Identification, development and tracking of capital funding requirements (project reserve requirements for new building construction or renovations)
- Campus network plant specifications development, documentation and administration
- Project coordination, oversight and management (renovations, new buildings, etc.)
- Wireless neutral hosting project administration and management
- Infrastructure materials management and logistics
